Singer Katy Perry has spoken about the trouble she had coping with life, following her divorce from comedian Russell Brand.
Perry opened up to Billboard about the break-up, admitting that there were times when she asked herself, “should I continue living?”
"I was still in a dark place," she said. "I hadn't let the light in."
However, the heartache did inspire her music, which is particularly reflective in her new album Prism where several songs document her feelings of loss.
"When you lose something, all your foundations crumble-but that also leaves a big hole that's open for something great to come through" she said.
"All the songs are real-life moments," she told the website.
"I can only write autobiographically. I put all the evidence in the music. I always tell my fans if they want to know the real truth about stuff, just listen to the songs."

Perry has since moved on to singer John Mayer. The two have collaborated on a song featured on his new album.
