Shannen Doherty‘s inspiring attitude to life after brain cancer diagnosis

Laura Cunningham

She’s been dealing with cancer since 2015

Star of Beverly Hills 90210 and Charmed, Shannen Doherty has been spotted out and about socialising, after recently revealing that her cancer has spread.

The actor shared the sad news that her cancer was back and had spread to her brain in a post on social media in January of this year. Doherty’s doctors had discovered metastases, which she called “mets”, on her brain on the 5th of January and she began radiation later that month.

Fans were thrilled to see her looking well yesterday and she was all smiles for the camera as she met friends at a restaurant in Malibu.

First diagnosed with breast cancer in 2015, she spent some time in remission before the disease returned in 2020.

She initially remained quiet about the reemergence of her illness, as it coincided with the sad passing of her former co-star, Luke Perry.

At the time she told Good Morning America: “It’s so weird for me to be diagnosed and then somebody who was seemingly healthy to go first. It was really shocking.”

Both actors appeared in the Beverly Hills 90210 reboot in 2019 and Shannen went on to explain why that was such an important decision for her.

“Our life doesn’t end the minute we get that diagnosis.”

“The least I could do to honour him (Luke Perry) was to do that show. One of the reasons, along with Luke, that I did 90210 and didn’t really tell anybody (that her cancer had returned) was because I thought, people can look at that, other people with cancer can work too. Our life doesn’t end the minute we get that diagnosis.

“We still have some living to do.”

Her bravery and attitude to life in the face of such challenges is truly inspiring. We wish her the very best.
