Selena Gomez ‘will drop new music ahead of BAFTA Awards’

Selena Gomez is set to drop new music this week … apparently

Reports are suggesting that the singer and actress will release a surprise single on Friday, just ahead of the BAFTA Awards, where she is in the running for Best Supporting Actress.

According to The Sun, Gomez’s new track will be unveiled at the prestigious awards ceremony on February 14th, coinciding with her first Valentine’s Day as a fiancée to producer Benny Blanco.

This release marks her first new music since February 2024, when she dropped Love On.

Although Gomez has periodically returned to music, she has been vocal about her shifting focus toward acting.

During a panel at the Santa Barbara International Film Festival on February 9th, she hinted that she sees her future in film rather than music.

“I think being surrounded by such talented filmmakers and artists has been incredibly inspiring. It’s going to be really hard for me to go back to music after this,” she admitted.

The Only Murders in the Building star last released a full album in 2020 but has continued to put out singles sporadically, including Single Soon and her collaboration on Calm Down in 2023.

She also contributed My Mind & Me to her 2022 documentary of the same name. However, she has suggested that her next album may be her last.

Speaking on the SmartLess podcast in 2024, Gomez reflected on her career trajectory.

“The older I get, the more I just want to settle on something,” she shared.

“I do feel like I have one more album in me, but I’d probably choose acting.”

She also acknowledged the challenge of balancing both careers, and said: “I know I don’t have to choose, but I think at some point, I’ll want to slow down. I’m tired.”

Despite her reservations about continuing in music, fans will soon have another track to enjoy – proving that, for now, Selena Gomez isn’t quite ready to leave music behind.
