Scarlett Moffatt says she is “finally happy” following self-acceptance journey

“If other people find your body such an issue, it’s a ‘them’ problem.”

Former Gogglebox star Scarlett Moffatt has spoken about her experience with body image and self-esteem.

In an interview published in The Sun last week, the I’m A Celeb winner said that learning to be “kinder” to herself was an integral part of finally feeling happy in herself.

She told the paper: “The thing with body confidence is it’s quite an easy thing to pick on and target yourself over. If you’re not happy in other parts of your life, you’ll convince yourself, ‘I’d be happier if I had littler arms or a six-pack.’

“Whereas when you work on what’s inside and find happiness with life in general, you realise it’s not a ‘you’ problem. If other people find your body such an issue, it’s a ‘them’ problem.”

She added that being kinder to herself allowed her to feel “really confident” for the first time.

This isn’t the first time Scarlett has been open and candid about her own mental health.

In 2021, after becoming am ambassador for The Samaritans, Scarlett talked about having to deal with online trolling. At the time, she told Grazia that she was suffering from anxiety as a result.

She said: “Women shouldn’t have to grow a thick skin to put up with all this abuse. But I think until things start to change, it’s good to have good coping mechanisms in place.”

Scarlett first found fame for appearing on the UK edition of Gogglebox with her parents and her younger sister. The family left the show in 2016, and Scarlett subsequently competed and was crowned the winner of I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here.
