Comedian Russell Brand has refused to comment on suggestions he plans to run for Mayor of London in 2016.
According to the Mail on Sunday, Brand has told close friends he wants to succeed Boris Johnson in 2016, and is considering standing on an independent “anti-politics” ticket.
The news comes following the release of Brand’s new book Revolution, which delves into some of the comedian’s political beliefs and is believed could lead to some clues to his platform if he were to be a candidate.
Brand also writes in his book how he wants to ban both fracking and the monarchy – controversially suggesting that Prince George’s birth should prompt the public to ‘invest in a Fisher Price guillotine.’
A spokeswoman for Mr Brand refused to rule out the bid, simply saying ‘We are not commenting’.
Nominations for the London mayoral election will not close until around five weeks before the contest in May 2016.
