She is known for having a right old laugh on the small screen but it sounds as if this RTÉ star was far from smiling when she had to go to court this week.

Comedienne Katherine Lynch, famous for hosting Katherine Lynch’s Big Fat Breakfast Show, had to attend court on charges of train fare evasion.

Luckily for her, she avoided conviction but had to pay €100 to charity after the court heard allegations that she had failed to pay the €32 fare for the Dublin to Sligo train.

Ms Lynch agreed to pay the sum to Temple Street Children’s Hospital but denied the claims against her.

Iarnród Éireann inspector Eric Quinn told the court that he came across her and asked her for a ticket. She then explained to him that she had been let on the train at Connolly by a member of staff as she was running late.

Quinn said that he gave her a fine as there were ticket-buying facilities at Connolly. He also told her that the matter would be looked into. Ms Lynch allegedly then asked to buy a ticket on board but Quinn refused.

The television personality had to pay €100 to charity.

However the whole matter has been resolved, and the case struck out by Judge John Lindsay, with the television star agreeing to pay the money to charity.

According to the Irish Independent, Ms Lynch said she was “humiliated” by the whole ordeal before adding: “I do not mind paying money to charity, I don’t want to be fined for something I didn’t do.”
