Bláthnaid Treacy has opened up about her ADHD diagnosis

RTÉ presenter Bláthnaid Treacy has revealed she has been diagnosed with ADHD.

The radio host said she is feeling relieved following her diagnosis in an interview with the RTÉ Guide.

The soon-to-be mum-of-two said her symptoms were more intense after she became a mother for the first time.

She told the publication:

“Getting the ADHD diagnosis was really eye-opening for me. I didn’t realise that when you have ADHD, your symptoms explode after you have a baby, and that’s what happened to me. I went privately to get my diagnosis, and it just made so much sense once I got it.

She added, “I think once you can understand yourself and why you’re behaving in a certain way, you can deal with it so much better. It has had a very positive impact on my life getting this diagnosis.”

Bláthnaid said she often feels overwhelmed and struggles if she has a particularly intense day with a “list of things I have to get through.”

“So, I just slow everything down and do one thing at a time. I can be extremely outgoing and loud, but then I need to sit quietly, which is quite a common trait with ADHD.

She said she has been like this for most of her life, but only got diagnosed after going private.

“And I remember that, even as a kid, I’d have bursts of energy and then I’d be extremely tired.”

The presenter has been praised for opening up about her ADHD diagnosis.

The update comes after Bláthnaid confirmed she was pregnant with her second child.
