On Sunday afternoon, Robert Downey Jr.’s son Indio was arrested for cocaine possession. The 20-year-old was taken into custody after police searched a car he was in and discovered cocaine on his person.

The car in question had been searched because someone was caught smoking a pipe by police. Indio later posted his bail and was released.

Robert Downey Jr. has released a statement on the arrest of his son, stating: “Unfortunately there’s a genetic component to addiction and Indio has likely inherited it.”

“There is a lot of family support and understanding, and we’re all determined to rally behind him and help him become the man he’s capable of being,” he continued to Us. “We’re grateful to the Sheriff’s department for their intervention, and believe Indio can be another recovery success story instead of a cautionary tale.”

Downey Jr. has struggled with drug addiction over the years, ending up in prison and often being fired from his on-screen work.
