The reason Sophia Vergara and Joe Manganiello have split up is heartbreaking

The true reason behind Sophia Vergara and Joe Manganiello's divorce has emerged and it is so much more heartbreaking than we once thought.

The couple confirmed their split earlier this week after seven years of marriage. They shared a statement with Page Six, saying: "We have made the difficult decision to divorce. As two people that love and care for one another very much, we politely ask for respect of our privacy at this time as we navigate this new phase of our lives.” A source later told People: "They have been growing apart for some time now and tried to resolve things, but they are focused on different areas of their lives.” While a second source added: “I have never seen two people so in love, so passionate and so happy. They were always, laughing, lovey-dovey and really happy. “They definitely love and respect each other but once that initial passion dies down and other areas get in the way, then little differences get bigger. They had differences in how their lives should go forward and it caused stress.” They also claimed that Sophia always questioned marrying Joe, but it turns out he was the one who chose to separate. A source has since revealed to Page Six that Joe put an end to their marriage after the two disagreed on having children. Claiming he always wanted to be a dad, the two could not agree on welcoming children and those feelings became more intense over the last number of years. It is believed that when the two married in 2015, Sophia was more open to children but her stance has since changed. Sophia is already mum to 31-year-old Manolo who she shares with her ex-husband Joe Gonzalez. The Modern Family actress went through a lengthy court battle over custody of two frozen embryos from a 2013 IVF treatment with former fiancé Nick Loeb who intended to bring them to term.
