If we could nominate anyone for a father of the year award, we’d have to put Nicky Byrne forward. Once again he has proven that he is the quintessential family man and we’ll be honest and say we sort of love him for it.
The Westlife singer has insisted that staying with his family is ten times more important than winning on reality TV show Strictly Come Dancing.
According to reports today, Nicky was given the option of moving to London for some intensive training with his dance partner Karen Hauer. If in London, Nicky would have been able to enjoy some serious training provided by the BBC that would probably help him to up his game on the show even more.
However, Nicky refused to take the trip over to the UK simply because he knew it was important that he remained in Ireland for his family.
“It would have been advantageous to stay in London throughout the week, but not as much as I couldn’t leave my family,” said Nicky, speaking exclusively to the Irish Daily Star.
“The kids are starting school and it wasn’t the right time to move over,” he added.

Nicky revealed that he felt it was important to stay in Ireland with his lovely wife (and Her.ie columnist!) Georgina and his five-year-old twin boys Rocco and Jay.
“Some contestants travel from Liverpool or Manchester. I was delighted that the BBC could accommodate me to train in Dublin,” said Nicky.
In tonight’s episode of Strictly, Nicky will be dancing the rumba to Aerosmith’s I don’t Wanna Miss a Thing and apparently he’s looking forward to the challenge.
“Professionals say it’s the hardest dance and I definitely think so,” said Nicky.
“It doesn’t help that it’s a Latin dance and I had my worst week doing the Cha-Cha-Cha, another Latin dance. It means I have a mental block about it,” he added.
We’ll definitely be tuning in to see how Nicky does later tonight!
