Place Your Bets Now – We Reveal Paddy Power’s Name Predictions For The Royal Baby

Let the speculation commence!

Her

There’s a Royal Baby on the way! Kate and Wills had barely confirmed the news (see here) when bets were already being placed on the name of the Royal he or she. And while we know they’re possibly the most conservative couple on the planet, if Paddy Power is to be believed Kate and Wills look set to pick the most un-original baby names known to man!

Mary: 8/1

It’s an Irish mammy favourite that seems to have been bestowed on every other baby girl born in the 50s but the biblical name has always been a royal favourite and has gained favour in celebville in the last couple of years – Lily Allen named her daughter Ethel Mary last year and Kourtney Kardashian also shares the same middle name.

John: 8/1

Sometimes a solid, uncomplicated boys name is best and you can’t get more solid and uncomplicated than John! And he would be in good company – John has been a very popular name for emperors, popes and kings in the past.

Diana: 9/1

A touching tribute to William’s beloved mum Diana might be on the cards if the couple give birth to a baby girl although we’re not too sure how granny would feel about it.

Phillip: 10/1

Perhaps the couple will pay homage to William’s grandfather the Duke of Edinburgh and Kate’s only sister and opt for the old-fashioned family name.

Victoria: 8/1

Before Victoria Beckham came on the scene, the most famous Vic to come out of the UK was Queen Victoria who reigned for an unprecedented 63 years. She was famed for her strict morals and her extended period of mourning after her husband Prince Albert died.

Mini Kate/Will on the way, but it’s unlikely the Royal Baby will be named after one of it’s parents

Other favourites include Frances, Philip, Anne, Charles and George, all at 10/1 or less. Bookies suspect that the royal child being given his/her father’s name is more likely than a child named after its mother, with William at 16/1 and Catherine at 20/1, but a few names are seen as markedly less likely to be up for inclusion. Given the history of the family, it’s no surprise that Wallis is a rank outsider at 100/1, but it’s still seen as a far more likely choice than a tribute to Beatrice and Eugenie’s mum – poor old Fergie is a 250/1 shot!
