Perrie Edwards said she was heartbroken over the breakdown of their friendship
Singer Perrie Edwards has opened up about the breakdown of her friendship with former Little Mix bandmate Jesy Nelson.
The pair had been friends since their days on the X Factor but they fell out when Jesy left the band abruptly in 2020.
Perrie has since opened up about their heartbreaking fallout in an interview with presenter Fearne Cotton.
Perrie explained that they’ve not spoken since Jesy left the band in 2020.
She told the Happy Place podcast host that friendship breakups are almost as hard as romantic ones.
“I wrote a song about a friendship I had that I no longer have,” Perrie revealed to Fearne Cotton.
“When it’s the relationship breakdown of a friend, it’s not something you hear about in music. It’s just as heartbreaking if not worse [as romantic love].
“When you’ve been in that person’s life for years and they’ve had your back, you’ve been through highs, lows, and everything, all these experiences, it’s a wild ride but you’ve gone through it together – then poof they’re gone – that’s hard to deal with,” she continued.
Perrie said the end of their friendship had a major impact on her emotionally.
“I struggled a lot with that. It’s really sad, but at the same time, these things sometimes happen. It does make you think ‘Do we try to rectify the situation? Should I reach out? It doesn’t feel like I should, it feels like I should just stay away,” she added.
She said it’s a “really horrible dynamic to be in” but she had to accept the fact that it wasn’t meant to be.
“You can’t force someone to be friends with you. It’s really hard,” she added.
