Paul Mescal has admitted he is nervous about his rising fame
Paul Mescal became one of the most promising Irish actors after his role in Normal People, but the actor’s career is just starting. At just 27 years old, Mescal has already been nominated for an Oscar, an Emmy and has won both a BAFTA and an Olivier award.
It’s a career many actors have dreamed of but Mescal has admitted he’s worried about becoming too famous.
He admitted that he is concerned about his increasing stardom.
Mescal is due to star in Gladiator 2 but is worried about the impact the film will have on him. The actor said he’s unsure about the difference the film will make, but he is concerned about it.
He recently told The Times: “I don’t know what the difference will be. Maybe that’s naive? Is it just that more people will stop you in the street?
“I’d get profoundly depressed if that’s so and hope it isn’t true,” Mescal admitted.
“I’ll have an answer next year, but if [the film] impacts my life in that way, I’ll be in a bad spot,” he said.
“I’d have to move on and do an obtuse play nobody wants to see,” he continued.
Mescal could become as big as Cillian Murphy or Colin Farrell, but we could also see him abandon the spotlight completely if fame starts to impact him mentally.
The way Mescal speaks about fame and his mental health is refreshing in a world that’s obsessed with celebrity status.
