It seems like Robin Thicke and Pharrell’s songwriting abilities weren’t enough to dismiss the blurred lines of their recent copyright case – with a jury in Los Angeles ruling that the pair copied Marvin Gaye’s ‘Got to Give It Up’ with their hit track.

The news means Marvin Gaye’s family will receive $7.3million in return for the use of the 1977 hit in Thicke’s number one track.

Thicke admitted during the trial that he had lied about his role in co-writing the song with Pharrell, while Pharrell told the court that although he didn’t intentionally copy his track he did listen to Marvin Gaye growing up.

Although it’s believed the compensation is nearly half of all profits from the $16.6million the single racked up, it is believed “years of appeals” could see the case drag on.

‘Blurred Lines’ was a number one hit in 2013, topping the charts for 12 weeks.
