Party-hopping Lucy Spraggan last night revealed that her mum always yearned for a gay child after falling in love with the LGBT community.
Speaking to The Irish Sun, Lucy said: “I’m pretty sure she had always been wishing for a gay child. She’s taken her kids to Gay Pride festivals since we were babies and has lots of gay friends.
“To be honest, she wanted to have one of us gay. I know that. She thinks she’s part of the cool club now.
“When I came out, it was just like someone had said, ‘I’m nipping to the shops.’ I walked into Mum’s room, she was with my stepdad and I just told her I had a girlfriend — that was it. She was just pleased. But I didn’t get my confidence because of my courage to come out. It is from how I was brought up and my surroundings, my school.
“No way did I think my mum would throw me out after I came out. No one in my family judges anyone like that.
“But in Britain there’s still a huge stigma. People have asked me if I thought of keeping it a secret while on The X Factor. But it didn’t even come into my mind.”
Along with the pressure of X Factor, Lucy is missing her girlfriend, who moved to Thailand to teach English after the pair had been dating for six months.
Despite rumours of a break-up, Lucy revealed that are still most certainly an item.
“I really miss my girlfriend but I told her, ‘Don’t think about not going because I’m here’ and she said, ‘Lucy, come to Thailand — but not if you’re going to miss a single gig, your career comes first.’
“It is a hugely passionate affair. When you’re alone in bed, without your girlfriend, it’s sad. But hopefully, in the future, we’ll be together again.”
Lucy joined the remaining X Factor hopefuls at her new buddy Rylan’s Halloween birthday bash last night, where she dressed up as a cutesy pumpkin.
