Former Liberty X star Michelle Heaton has said her decision to have a double mastectomy was a “no-brainer”.
Michelle made the decision after being diagnosed with an 80 per cent chance of developing breast cancer.
The 33-year-old said she hopes to have preventative surgery on her breasts “sooner than later”.
She said she would also consider having her ovaries removed before she is 40 but wants to have another child first.
Michelle was diagnosed about four months ago with a mutant gene called BRCA2. The gene means she is likely to develop breast cancer and also has a 30 per cent chance of developing ovarian cancer.
The star said it’s a “no-brainer” for her to undergo the surgery…
She opened up to Lorraine Kelly on her TV show Lorraine and said she had come to the decision after discussing it with a surgeon that she wanted to go “down the route of a double mastectomy and reconstruction using implants.”
“I feel like it’s a no-brainer,” Michelle said, “I feel like having such a high risk of breast cancer, albeit I know it’s in my lifetime so right now I know it’s not particularly 80 per cent, but every day that goes past I’m constantly feeling my breasts.
“I’m looking for things that aren’t even there. I’m worried.
“I just think that preventative surgery is the best for me.”
