Michael Bublé says son’s cancer diagnosis “changed” him in a big way

"It changed how I saw life."

Singer Michael Bublé has spoken about how his life was changed when his son became seriously ill. Michael and his partner Luisana Lopilato are parents to four children, and in 2016, their oldest son Noah was diagnosed with hepatoblastoma, a form of liver cancer. The child was three-years old at the time, and he has since made a full recovery. Now, in an interview with Red Magazine, Michael has spoken about that difficult time, and how it changed who he was as a person. He told the publication: "That, of course, changed me in a big way - it changed what mattered to me, it changed how I saw life." Michael explained that in his years in the music industry, he developed an "alter ego" as an entertainer, which he describes as a sort of "superhero". However, with Noah's diagnosis, he says that that alter-ego faded away. After Noah became ill, Michael cancelled all of his music engagements, and the family moved to Vancouver to be near the rest of their extended family. Michael previously spoke about the ordeal during a Stand up to Cancer special episode of Carpool Karaoke with James Corden. At the time, he said: "It's so hard to have to acknowledge it because it's so painful to talk about. "But obviously, we got the diagnosis and that was it, man. My whole life ended." He went on: "It's funny. He is five-years-old, you know. He loves Spiderman, we love Spiderman, and I say to him, 'Spiderman's amazing, Superman's amazing. But they're fake. They're not real. You're a superhero. You're my hero. My real superhero.'" The singer is currently preparing for an upcoming tour of the UK and Ireland.
