Meghan Markle got emotional speaking about her college days in her first royal tour speech

The Duchess of Sussex delivered an inspiring speech to students and staff in Suva, Figi on Wednesday.

In her first royal tour speech and away from Prince Harry, who decided to separate from his wife to go on a different royal engagement, Meghan looked radiant and confident as she took to the podium at the University of the South Pacific. Meghan Markle graduated from Northwestern University in 2003 with a bachelor's degree in theatre and international studies. But getting to this place wasn't an easy task for Meghan and something which she recalled to a packed hall.

"The journey of higher education is an incredible, impactful and pivotal one. I am also fully aware of the challenges of being able to afford this level of schooling for many people around the world, myself included."

Continuing she got personal, going into the details of her aided education.

"It was through scholarships, financial aid programs and work-study where my earnings from a job on campus went directly towards my tuition – that I was able to attend university. And, without question, it was worth every effort. “Everyone should be afforded the opportunity to receive the education they want, but more importantly the education they have the right to receive. And for women and girls in developing countries, this is vital."

Meghan finished up her speech by announcing two new grants to support the staff at the college. For her visit to the college, Meghan wore traditional gartland's over a patterned maxi dress. Later on, the Duchess of Sussex met her husband who was too dressed natively in a blue, leaf print shirt. The royals continue their stay in Figi today.
