McFly star Tom Fletcher was rushed to an eye hospital earlier this week after a sudden flare up of an autoimmune condition that he battles.

The music star shared to social media that he had been rushed to hospital after an inflammation inside part of his eye as a result of a condition known as uveitis.

Symptoms of the condition include sensitivity to light, blurred vision and pain and can lead to loss of vision and blindness.

As per the NHS the condition often gets better quickly if treated but can come back at any time.

Speaking on a video on Instagram he said: “My autoimmune thing flared up out of nowhere last night (Sunday). Woke up feeling (and looking) like I’d been smashed in the fact! This is after it had calmed down and I could see again.”

He added: “Not the day I had planned.”

He shared that he was on medication for six weeks.

The 39-year-old went to the A&E at The Western Eye Hospital in Marlyebone, London, to receive treatment.

He said: “Hate having to come here but so thankful it exists! The doctors and nurses have helped me out so many times now.”

Tom now has to take eye drops for the six weeks in an attempt to stop the flare up.

He was last rushed to hospital in 2023 in similar conditions.

A GP can refer a patient to an eye specialist, depending on the severity of the condition, and will be seen within 24 hours.

Treatment includes medication, temporary freezing, or even surgery.
