Madonna has seemingly praised pop star Sabrina Carpenter after the Espresso singer channelled one of the Queen of Pop’s most iconic looks in a new photoshoot
Over the years, Madonna has defined pop culture with her style, including her unforgettable Blond Ambition tour back in 1990.
During the tour, she famously donned a Jean Paul Gaultier cone bra corset.
Now, it appears that 25-year-old Sabrina has drawn inspiration from Madonna’s vibe, recreating a vintage 1991 photoshoot that originally featured the music legend.
The original image, shot by renowned photographer Steven Meisel for Italian Vogue, captured Madonna in a sultry pose with her signature platinum waves.
Meisel, who also worked on Madonna’s Like a Virgin album cover and other high-profile campaigns, has now photographed Sabrina for her own Vogue cover – this time in a turquoise corset with a very similar platinum blonde wig.
Madonna wasted no time addressing the resemblance, commenting on Sabrina’s Instagram post: “Is this a Valentine’s present to me?” Sabrina playfully responded: “@madonna it sure is!”
Fans quickly jumped in to talk about the undeniable similarities, with one commenting, “Madonna vibes,” while another quipped, “Like a Carpenter, she wants to take you there.”
Others were a bit more critical, with one writing: “Madonna subtly letting her know this is a straight-up 1992 rip-off,” while another suggested,
“What’s the point of recreating a Marilyn Monroe/Madonna-type image? Be your own unique self.”
Despite the mixed reactions, Sabrina has previously spoken about her artistic inspirations, telling Vogue: “I dress in a way where you would expect to hear a voice from the ‘60s.
“I remember feeling inspired by women who were strong and hyper-feminine, and then thinking, ‘If only she said what she was actually thinking.’”
Sabrina’s tribute to pop icons comes as she continues to dominate the charts.
She was recently honoured as the first-ever recipient of the Global Success award at the BRIT Awards, after holding the Number One spot for 21 weeks last year – an achievement unmatched by any female artist in 71 years.
She also became the first female artist to simultaneously occupy the top three spots with her singles Taste, Please Please Please, and Espresso.
Following the BRITs, Sabrina is set to head off on her European tour, kicking off in Dublin on March 3rd and 4th.
