Love/Hate star Peter Coonan has been fined and banned from driving for four years after he ran into a motorcyclist from behind.

The 28-year-old actor, who plays Fran in the hit show, was up in Dun Laoghaire District Court for the case which stems back to May 2011.

Coonan reportedly ran into Trevor McNaughton from behind on the N11. The motorcyclist was pushed forward and subsequently lost control of the bike. As a result he suffered a back injury and missed six weeks of work.

According to the Irish Independent the defence raised a number of legal issues in court but these were rejected by Judge Bridget Reilly.

He has been fined and banned from driving for four years.

She found Coonan guilty of dangerous driving as well as failing to give appropriate information to the gardaí, failing to keep a vehicle at the scene of an accident and failing to report an injury to another man.

The actor, who previously denied the charges, was fined €2,450 and banned from driving for four years.
