Lorraine Kelly hits back against false weight loss claim on Twitter

Sarah McKenna Barry

“I’m furious and will be taking legal action.”

TV presenter Lorraine Kelly has called out a Twitter account for false claims about her losing weight.

Lorraine retweeted a post which read “Lorraine Kelly lost 1st in 6 weeks with a new diet”, and shut it down as “utter crap”.

She wrote: “This is utter crap and I have reported – please do not believe this utter utter bollox. I’m furious and will be taking legal action.”

The tweet linked to an external website.

Other Twitter users praised Lorraine for calling out the tweet and seeking legal advice on the matter.

Dr Zoe Williams, who regularly makes appearance on ITV’s This Morning, applauded the presenter, and wrote: “Well said Lorraine.”

Another fan wrote: “Anyone who listens and watches you knows it’s healthy eating and exercise, especially dancing that keeps you trim and looking good.”

Jemma Gilbert, who works at Healthy London Partnerships, urged social media users to be cautious when they see claims like these.

She wrote: “If you see marketing posts for a new weight loss pill called ‘Figur’ stating that Lorraine Kelly owns the business & shed 1st in 1 week… @lorrainekelly has confirmed it’s utter crap. She’s always advocated healthy eating and exercise as the route to staying a healthy weight.”

Another fan pointed out that similar accounts use the image and make claims about Martin Lewis and Deborah Meaden as part of financial scams.

A fifth fan said Lorraine was “quite right” to report the tweet and to seek legal advice.

He said: “I thought originally it wasn’t genuine. What cheek. Set your lawyers on ’em.”

Another suggested that the account was using photos of celebrities to push “dodgy schemes”.
