It looks like we now know who did the dumping between Liam and Cheryl

Breakups are never easy, especially for the person on the wrong end of it.

When Liam Payne and Cheryl announced that they had split up last month, it all sounded pretty mutual.

"We are sad to announce that we are going our separate ways," they told fans in a statement in July. "It's been a tough decision for us to make. "We still have so much love for each other as a family. Bear is our world and we ask that you respect his privacy as we navigate our way through this together."

A month and a half on, it looks like the split mightn't have been so mutual after all. Lyrics from one particular track on Liam's newly released EP hint that Cheryl was the one to call things off and that he held out hope about them staying together. "How’d we get to lying, crying, always fighting like our lives depend on it?" he sings on Depend On It. "I’m not ready yet, there’s still a thread left. "Give it one last go. I need us to try." Liam told fans earlier this month that he had scrapped a number of new songs over some big changes in his life. "They felt from another age," he admitted in a tweet.

Liam and Cheryl first met in 2009 when the then 14-year-old Liam auditioned for The X Factor. They were first linked as a couple in 2016 and in March of 2017 they welcomed their son, Bear.
