It was revealed this morning that nude photographs of celebrities, released online this week, are set to be used in an upcoming art exhibition.
Stars such as Jennifer Lawrence and Kate Upton will feature in the exhibition No Delet e. The exhibition will open to the public in the Warehouse Arts District in Saint Petersburg, Florida on October 30.
Cory Allen Contemporary Art (CACA) announced the news, saying the hacked photos will be the latest additions to artist XVALA’s Fear Google campaign.
The show will display a collection built up over seven years by the artists using images found on Google. They show celebrities in their most private moments, taken by the paparazzi or hackers.
“We share our secrets with technology,” said LA artist XVALA. “And when we do, our privacy becomes accessible to others.”
XVALA’s images have caught world-wide attention for years, having used the Britney Spear’s shaved head portrait, along with nude images of Scarlett Johansson which XVALA posted throughout the streets of LA.
“In today’s culture, everybody wants to know everything about everybody. An individual’s privacy has become everyone else’s business,” said XVALA. “It has become cash for cache.”
“The perfect world would be where we can control our information, but nobody can.”
“The commentary behind this show is a reflection of who we are today,” said publicist Cory Allen. “We all become ‘users’ and in the end, we become ‘used’.”
XVALA also added, “I hope we don’t need an attorney,” following reports that Jennifer Lawrence is likely to try and block the images from going on display.
