It might be time for the case to be made for John Travolta as an underrated and unfairly maligned talent.
Sure, he's made a string of terrible films – Battlefield Earth, Gotti, The Fanatic, lots of straight to video cash-grabs, you name it – but think of the highlights on his CV.
Vincent Vega in Pulp Fiction. Vic Deakins in Broken Arrow. A genuinely iconic dual role in Face/Off. Danny Zuko in Grease. Tony Manero in Saturday Night Fever. Chili Palmer in Get Shorty.
A hell of a murderer's row, it must be said.
He's even the subject of a great golden era Simpsons joke:

However, it's fair to say that Travolta can make a meal of it sometimes.
Think back to his infamous appearance at the 2014 Academy Awards when he butchered the pronunciation of Idina Menzel's name in truly spectacular fashion:

Which brings us to the present day, Travolta's arrival on our shores and one hell of an Irish accent attempt.
Per his Instagram account, the actor has flown himself – he's a skilled pilot, don't you know – over to Ireland for some unspecified "business", apparently.
Following a seven-hour flight from Florida to Shannon Airport, Travolta took the time to thank people for supporting his daughter Ella Bleu's debut single 'Dizzy', which was released earlier this month.
"So I've arrived safely in Ireland and I just want to take this moment to thank you for all your support for Ella's song; it's a big success, we're very proud and it's all because of you."
Buoyed by his joy and seemingly possessed by the spirit of the Emerald Isle, Travolta then launched into a well-intentioned stumble of an Irish accent, noting (we think):
"Life is what you make it, isn't it? It is, ah it is."
Look, he gave it his best shot. Fair play to him.
