Rory McIlroy and Caroline Wozniacki have reportedly called off their wedding and ended their relationship.
The golfer made the announcement through his communications consultancy according to The Irish Mirror. He said: “There is no right way to end a relationship that has been so important to two people.
“The problem is mine. The wedding invitations issued at the weekend made me realise that I wasn’t ready for all the marriage entails
“I wish Caroline all the happiness she deserves and thank her for the great times we’ve had. I will not be saying anything more about our relationship in any setting”.
The couple, who have been dating since 2011, were apparently set to tie the knot this summer. They got engaged on New Year’s Eve 2013.
Earlier this month Rory rubbished “exclusive” reports by an Irish newspaper that they had set the date for this coming August. Both McIlroy and tennis pro Wozniacki have an active presence on social media, but neither has yet commented on the news.
Rory’s last tweet was sent on Sunday last, where he shared a picture of the view as he and his former fiancé enjoyed dinner in Monte Carlo.
