Peaches Geldof revealed the true extent of her struggle with fame in an interview just weeks before her tragic death.
The television presenter and journalist was found dead at her home in Wrotham in April, with a inquiry later finding that her death was “likely” to be connected to heroin use. In her last interview, thought to have been conducted just weeks before her death, Geldof revealed that she had always been aware of the public’s perception of her and struggled with the intrusion into her life.
“I’m young, but people all know the same information about me. That’s the worst thing, the preconceptions…I’m going to die like my mother, she’s going to end up like her mother,” she said.
“The worst thing is shaking someone’s hand and realising full well they have a completely preconceived notion of who you are. They know your whole life! And you know nothing about them. It’s an imbalance that’s frightening.”
According to The Mirror, the 25-year-old noticed a major shift in public opinion towards her following the birth of sons Astala and Phaedra with husband Thomas Cohen.
“Suddenly I was this earth mother. It was an overnight transformation. It was so profoundly hateful. Then, out of nowhere, it was, ‘Dang. We can’t hate you anymore. Here she is in her golden hair, etc.’”
