Popular Irish brand The Head Plan to appear on Dragons’ Den this week – here’s the story behind the business

Wellness Brand The Head Plan

The Head Plan has become part of many people’s daily routines since its release.

Over the last number of years, journaling has taken off as a leading activity in wellness.

The practice is simple: write down your thoughts and feelings to understand them more clearly.

This can help you take back some control over your emotions, which, in turn, can improve your mental health.

No one knows this better than The Head Plan founders, Denise Kenny Byrne and Ciaran Byrne, who will brave Dragon’s Den this week to present their hugely successful wellness and journaling brand and community.

The Head Plan, which has turned over nearly €3.5 million and is now sold in over 50 countries, is now hoping to expand its brand by securing a business partner in a Dragon to support their international growth aspirations.

The Head Plan’s Journey

The journal we all know today was born from a traumatic experience.

After the couple returned from their honeymoon as newlyweds, both leading successful but separate careers in tech and marketing, Ciaran was diagnosed with leukaemia.

Before a successful stem cell transplant, his outlook for recovery was not looking promising.

This devastating moment changed everything for the couple, as they reflected on what really mattered to them, what gave them purpose, and what made them happy.

We created The Head Plan because we don’t think it should take a catastrophic moment to reflect and make big changes in your life.

Denise, who has been journaling since childhood, strongly believes in the power of putting pen to paper to materialise real things.

With Ciaran’s recovery and newfound realisation of the importance of taking life day by day and not relying on anyone but yourself to make it happen, The Head Plan was founded in 2020.

The first launch saw the release of wellness and productivity journals to empower people to take 10 minutes out of their day for mindfulness and setting intentions.

Goal setting, reflection, personal development, and mindfulness should be a daily part of everyone’s life, not just something you do on January 1st.

Since its inception, the brand has attracted over 100,000 customers and its ever-present reminder that your headspace is the most important space to nurture, grow, and protect daily.

The wellness brand now features over 20 products, including a collaboration with No. 1 best-selling author and manifestation coach, Roxie Nafousi, as well as a free app with over 35,000 members and turning over close to €3.5 million.

“We created The Head Plan because we don’t think it should take a catastrophic moment to reflect and make big changes in your life. Goal setting, reflection, personal development, and mindfulness should be a daily part of everyone’s life, not just something you do on January 1st,” Denise comments.

She adds The Head Plan has the potential to go global, which is one of their reasons for taking on the Dragons.

“Dragons’ Den was an incredible opportunity and next step for us in hopefully garnering the support from some of our biggest inspirations in business and ultimately securing the right partner to help us to grow in the UK and beyond.”

The full episode will air on Thursday (February 8th) on BBC One.
