We love a bit of Liam Neeson and it seems as though we’re not the only ones! Good auld Liam is set to be honoured in his hometown of Ballymena, county Antrim today and preseted with the freedom of the small town.
The Irish Independent reports that this is the second time the actor has been offered the freedom of the borough, after he refused the county council’s recognition back in 2000 following controversy caused by his alleged derogatory remarks.
Liam was quoted in an American magazine saying that he felt “second class” as a Catholic while he was growing up in the mainly Protestant town. He reportedly said that he felt he had to stay indoors during the loyalist July 12th commemoration.
Liam Neeson will receive the freedom of the borough
Liam began his acting career in the Lyric Theatre in Belfast and then he joined Dublin’s Abbey Theatre, before he moved to London. He eventually managed to break Hollywood after he was spotted by director John Boorman during a performance in the Abbey. Neeson appeared in one of Boorman’s films and the rest is history.
Before Liam started acting he was a boxer and a forklift truck driver. He currently lives in New York and, if various surveys are to be believed, he remains one of Ireland’s sexiest actors.
