Imelda May celebrated the arrival of her baby girl yesterday and took to her Facebook to share the happy news with her fans.
The singer gave birth in the UK, near the home she shares with her husband and band member Darrel Hignam.
Imelda wrote: “Darrel and I are pleased to announce the arrival of Violet Kathleen Hignam – our beautiful baby daughter born August 23rd at 11.30. Imelda and Darrel xxx.”
During her pregnancy, the ‘Johnny Got a Boom Boom’ singer revealed that if the baby were a boy she would be tempted to call him Elvis.
However, Imelda’s little girl doesn’t need a rock star name to inspire her love of music as her mom schooled her in the genre while she was in the womb.
According to The Irish Mirror, the singer said: “I know they say you play Mozart to the baby to make it a genius but so far mine’s been listening to rock’n’roll all the way – a bit of Gene Vincent, some Johnny Cash and The Cramps,” she said.

A heavily pregnant Imelda took to the stage at the Peace One Day festival in Londonderry in June but has since kept a low profile in anticipation of the birth.
The singer and her husband announced her pregnancy in February.
Her.ie is thrilled for Imelda and we can’t wait to see if this tot inherits Imelda’s trademark quiff!
