Jake Gyllenhaal has revealed that he attended the scene of a murder with members of the Los Angeles Police Department in order to help him ‘get into character’ for his newest film, a cop thriller called End of Watch.

According to reports, Jake and his End of Watch co-star Michael Pena, spent five months researching for their roles and often accompanied police on ride-alongs in an attempt to understand the seedy underbelly of L.A and figure out how criminals work.

“I had no idea what to expect when I went on the first ride-along,” said Jake, speaking to Celebuzz.

“I didn’t know what I would encounter,” he added.

What Jake did encounter was a murder scene that was the result of a gangland shooting.

“It was obviously drug related. One gang member was walking down the street and another one was pulling out of his car and it was having to do with some issues between two different sects of a gang,” said Jake.

Jake attended a murder scene in order to help him “get into character.”

And while the murder scene shook Jake up a little bit, he added that it helped to change his perspective on things as well.

“Of course it was scary, but it was also thrilling and also really life affirming,” said Jake.

“It changed my perspective on my life and my perspective on my work,” he added.

Jake’s gritty new police drama is set to hit cinemas at the end of the month. We’re all for doing research when it comes to helping you get ‘into character’ but honestly? We think attending the scene of a murder is a bit much…
