Jones had previously opened up about the difficulties facing their relationship, saying that their future was in doubt due to Charlie's wish to return home to his native New Zealand.

"It’s a big thing to ask him to give up his family and home for good. Obviously, we have a mortgage together now, which is a big commitment, but the issue of New Zealand is still there. I know it’s silly – and in the grand scheme of things, it’s a tiny problem to have – but yeah, it wasn’t in the game plan."
