“He’s behind you” is a pretty common refrain when it comes to Christmas Panto performance.
It’s not, however, a line you ever want to hear about a Love/Hate character.
This year though, Pauley becomes peter as Johnny Ward is set to play Peter Pan in the Gaiety Christmas Panto.
God knows what Nidge and co would make of the tights, but Ward will play the lead character in this year’s show, having previously starred as Buttons in Cinderella at the Gaiety Theatre in 2012.
Johnny said today, “I can’t wait to play the lead in Peter Pan this year. Having performed in the panto two years ago, I know first hand how much hard work, as well as fun it is going to be!”
Director and choreographer Daryn Crosbie said, “Johnny is the perfect fit for Peter Pan. Not only is he an excellent actor, his singing and dancing skills will surprise you. He brings the devil may care attitude to the role, mixed with the boyish charm that you expect from the character of Peter Pan.”
“Right now, he is most recognizable for playing the role of Pauley in the new series of RTE’s Love Hate, and so taking on the role of Peter Pan only serves to show how versatile an actor he is – an all round talent!”
Peter Pan will begin a 6-week run from 1st December 2014 – 11th January 2015, and no doubt Fran, Elmo and Aido will be in the front row.
