Her Girl Crush… Eleven Reasons We Love And Adore Grace Kelly

We love this leading lady.

Sue Murphy

Every week, we love to focus on one woman who really impresses us or a woman that we just adore. This week, with the release of Grace of Monaco, we thought we would focus on the legend that was Grace Kelly. Here are eleven reasons we love and adore the real life Princess.

1. She was a real-life Princess.

In April 1956, Grace Kelly married Prince Rainier III in a religious ceremony in Monaco. This made Grace a real-life Princess, a role that she took incredibly seriously. The Kelly family had to hand over $2 million dollars as a dowry.

2. Her style.

Kelly is still seen to this day as the ultimate style icon, completely elegant and graceful, every single outfit was astonishing, beautiful and effortless.

3. Hitchcock’s muse.

Hitchcock loved blondes for his films but he particularly loved Grace Kelly, even holding off on film roles to ensure he could have her as his leading lady. Kelly used to call him “old Hitch”, Hitchcock called her “Gracey.”

4. She was incredibly shy.

Despite her massive fame and instant recognition wherever she went, Grace was an incredibly shy and quiet spoken person. Her costume designer once said: “She was quite shy. Since she was so beautiful, men were always flirting with her, and she wasn’t especially comfortable with such superficiality.”

5. Rear Window

Out of all of the projects Grace worked on, Rear Window was one of the most amazing. A horror by most standards, the film revolved around a man who was confined to his apartment with a broken leg and becomes extremely suspicious of his neighbour who may have murdered his wife. Grace played Grant’s girlfriend superbly and if the scene where she breaks into the apartment doesn’t give you shivers, we don’t know what else to tell you.

6. This Oscar Speech.

Just adorable.

7. She was hugely popular with her co-stars.

All of Grace’s co-stars completely adored her. Cary Grant named her as his favourite co-star while Jimmy Stewart commented that she was just: “too perfect.”

8. THAT wedding.

Yes we know that Kate Middleton had a very beautiful dress but it may have just been a little inspired by this gorgeous number…

9. She was a family girl at heart.

Grace adored her husband and family, giving up an extremely successful career in Hollywood in order to perform her duties as Princess, wife and mother.

11. She had an amazing sense of humour.

Louisette Levy-Soussan Azzoaglio, a woman who worked for the palace, once commented that Grace had an amazing sense of humour: “She wasn’t stuffy. She had a mischievous sense of humour, a glint of naughtiness in her eye and a great passion for limericks – even saucy ones,’ she says. ‘The actor David Niven shared her love of banter. There were gales of laughter every time he visited the palace.”
