Helen Mirren Meets Boy Dressed As The Queen To Fulfil His Dying Wish

She really is a queen amongst women...

Sue Murphy

We are big fans of Helen Mirren in the Her.ie office but she really has gone above and beyond with her latest act of charity.

The actress is currently playing the Queen in a stage production The Audience. However when she discovered Oliver Barton’s wish, she insisted on meeting him.

Oliver is battling cancer for the third time and his only wish was to have tea with the Queen in Buckingham Palace. When Mirren heard of the request, she arranged for a limo to pick up the boy and his parents and bring them to her show.

Afterwards, she arranged for 10-year-old Oliver to come backstage and meet her, while she stayed in character the entire time, according to the Daily Mail.

She then had tea and biscuits with the boy before knighting the little boy. Oliver’s parents were told earlier this month that he may only have weeks or months to live.

His father James Browne said: ‘She stayed in character for the whole thing. Oliver thought she was the real Queen, and well, that’s good enough for us.She was really lovely. She did the whole thing – had a butler there, was dressed in costume and did it all properly for him.

Mirren even had a butler present to add to the effect and brought in some of her corgis to have tea with them.

This just absolutely melted our hearts…
