The face of the Late Late‘s 40th birthday is on the horizon and Ryan Tubridy is taking a step back to look at his career achievements.
The RTÉ broadcaster and TV host said he has achieved more than he ever thought he would, but he has no intention of hosting the world’s longest-running chat show until retirement age.
He told the Irish Sun: “I’ve done a huge amount of things I’ve wanted to do.
“I have always wanted to present a chat show at some stage of my life and I got there, kind of twice.
“I have no desire to move off The Late Late Show but I don’t see myself doing it at 65.
“It would begin to go around in circles and I only have a certain amount of ability when it comes to persistence.”

Tubridy also feels his radio show, the 2FM slot he took over since the death of Gerry Ryan in 2010, needs a lot more work.
He has watched the show’s listenership figures steadily drop in the past few months.
“The 2FM show needs to do better, that’s a given, the facts are there and I am doing my best,” he told the paper.
“Now we need some numbers to back that up. If we stick with it, we could just come through.
“I will say it’s not my decision so if someone else comes along and says ‘you have had your chance, you’re out’, well I can only abide by that.”
