The IT Crowd was a crowd pleaser from day one but then the series really took off in a cult way, partially due to the popularity of the show, and partially due to the popularity of Chris O’Dowd following Bridesmaids.
Penned by Graham Linehan, the programme was a nerd’s dream, providing tonnes of quotable material and plenty of amazing t-shirts modelled by O’Dowd.
However, everyone started mourning the loss of the series almost as soon as it departed the television set. Then, Linehan announced there would be no fifth series of the show, much to the dismay of its many fans.
But now, according to Digital Spy, we might again have reason to celebrate. The series will shoot a finale special over the next few weeks and all of its major stars are set to return, including O’Dowd, Ayoade, Katherine Parkinson and Matt Berry.
O’Dowd had previously commented that he would be delighted to return to the series; “I’d love to do something more with those characters,” he commented. “I don’t think we said goodbye to them properly.”
