Just one week after it was confirmed that Spotify would not renew Meghan Markle’s podcast ‘Archetype,’ the royals are busy working on a new project.
The couple are now reportedly working on a Great Expectations-inspired TV show called Bad Manners for Netflix.
According to the Mirror, the production will be based around the Charles Dickens’ character of Miss Havisham.
The prequel will look to switch out the original ‘lonely spinster’ with a new and improved strong woman who is living in a patriarchal society.
This is due to follow the royal couple’s successful documentary series which saw the Sussexes’ discuss their personal lives after stepping down from the Royal Family in 2020.
However, it has not yet been revealed whether or not Netflix has commissioned the show itself and production dates have not been confirmed.
The show is just one out of a number of potential visual projects the couple have in the planning stages. A documentary on the Invictus Games also set to be produced at some point this year.
Spotify axe
Spotify and the couple released a statement last week saying the disbanding of their deal with Spotify was “mutually agreed to part ways and are proud of the series we made together”.
The Wall Street Journal reported that the royal’s received a $20 million deal with the audio company in 2020 to produce the podcast. However, a source close to the platform said they didn’t meet the productivity needed to merit the spend.
The podcast focuses on “labels that try to hold women back” and featured many famous faces including Meghan’s friend and tennis star, Serena Williams, pop icon Mariah Carey and South African comedian, Trevor Noah.
There were talks about renewing it for another season months ago but, it’s said that the Duchess of Sussex is determined to stream her podcast elsewhere now.
It’s believed the axing was due to sources revealing Meghan and Harry will no longer sit for interviews or produce any kind of content that discusses the Royal Family as they have “nothing left to say”.
