Greg O’Shea was into someone other than Amber in the Love Island villa

How the tables have turned.

After winning Love Island back in 2019 with Amber Gill, Greg O’Shea has now admitted that Amber wasn’t the person he was going for when he first entered the villa.

The Limerick lad was a late arrival into the villa and ended up being a match with Amber, but she wasn’t his original crush when he was watching the show from home.

Speaking on the Will You Shift My Friend podcast, Greg revealed a little bit about his past romances, from his first kiss as a kid to his journey on the ITV series.

Telling hosts Graham O’Toole and Nathan O’Reilly that he wasn’t planning on going for Amber on the show, the 27 year old said: “I’ve never come out saying it publicly, but I’ll say it to ye ’cause it’s so far on.

“Amber wasn’t set in my sights in the six weeks leading up. The girl that I was set in my sights was Lucie Rose Donlan.”

Much to Greg’s disappointment, Lucie had been dumped from the villa the week before he arrived but he was adamant they would make a good match.

“I knew I’d get on with her because she wasn’t getting on with the other girls in the villa so I knew she was normal,” he added.

“She was just like into surfing and fitness and all that kind of stuff… so I was like, ‘Aw, she’s kind of cool’.

“I think any Irish guy could go on the show and do what I did, we’re just so normal and contrasting to the English lads.

“But like just waking up in the morning and asking Amber did she want a cup of tea- the English lads wouldn’t do that.”

When it came down to it, Greg said he was meant to go on two dates when he first arrived in the villa, picking Amber and Maura Higgins, but after a very successful date with Amber, producers cancelled the date with Maura. Imagine that outcome?
