Good Samaritan? Russell Brand Offers Helping Hand to Homeless Man

Normally when we read a story about Russell Brand, we’re expecting to be shocked or offended in some way but we’ll admit, we have a bit of a soft spot for the comedian after reading this.

According to reports, Russell was spotted offering a helping hand to a homeless man in Los Angeles yesterday.

Russell was leaving a yoga class when he came across the man, who was topless and clearly down on his luck. Russell is reported to have chatted to the man for a while and given him a bottle of water. The comedian then rushed to his car to get the man a t-shirt so he could wear it.

It wasn’t long before the pair were laughing and getting along like old friends, and according to eyewitnesses, Russell offered the man a lift and was overheard saying that they were heading off to an Alcoholics Anonymous meeting together.

It’s no secret that the comedian was once a drug and sex addict, and he has written about his alcoholism in his two biographies. Because of his past, Russell regularly attends Alcoholics Anonymous and Narcotics Anonymous meetings to help him keep on the straight and narrow.

Russell openly admits that he is a recovering alcoholic and drug/sex addict.

Russell, who split from wife Katy Perry earlier this year, has been clean for over ten years, but despite that he has filmed a documentary about his struggle with addiction, written articles and even appeared before the UK Government as part of an enquiry into drugs policy.

We know that generally he’s a pretty controversial character but this story just proves that there’s a nice person underneath the comedic bravado.
