Irish television presenter and producer Maia Dunphy is our kind of woman, having written and produced for many comedy shows including Podge & Rodge and Katherine Lynch’s Wagons Den, as well as exploring two of the subjects closest to our hearts (wine and sex) in her RTE documentaries What Women Want and Merlot and Me.

She took a few minutes this week to chat to Her.ie about cellulite, Digestives and having dessert for dinner.

Tell us one surprising thing about you.
I’m a dab hand with a sewing machine.

What is the most embarrassing thing that you’ve ever done?
Aged 19, pretended I left my keys at a college mate’s party just so I had an excuse to go back and talk to him. It backfired!

If you could delete someone’s entire existence, who would it be?
That’s a terribly violent question! I’m guessing I’m supposed to choose someone like Hitler, but I’ll go for the person who first gave a name to cellulite.

Which trait do you most love and hate about yourself?
I’m a worrier! It speeds up my metabolism but keeps me awake at night.

Who would be your four perfect dinner party guests?
Fozzie, Kermit, Zig & Zag. We’d talk about humans behind their backs and have dessert for all three courses.

What’s the worst chat-up line that you’ve ever used?
I honestly can’t remember ever using one.

What is your favourite biscuit and why?
The humble Digestive. Delicious, and with a low dunking threshold you have an excuse to eat about six with one cup of tea.

Which Irish celebrity do you secretly fancy?
Podge, of Podge and Rodge fame. It’s the way he holds your gaze….

If you could live in any era, which one would you choose and why?
The Neolithic Era. I bet they never whinged about having nothing to wear.

Dogs or cats?
Both! I’ve never bought into the fact that you must be one or the other.

If you were to take the Her.ie team for dinner, where would we go?
My place for home cooked food and no last orders!
