Gardai are said to be sending a file to the Director of Public Prosecutions in Ireland following an investigation into an allegation of rape against a major showbiz celebrity.

According to the Irish Independent the woman made the complaint last October, almost a week before the allegations surrounding BBC presenter Jimmy Savile came to light.

The allegation was made around the time the Savile accusations began.

She claimed she had been raped following an event more than thirty years ago. She later gave birth to a baby girl.

The Gardai launched an in-depth investigation into the allegation which is now nearing completion. It has included inquiries in Ireland and inquiries in another jurisdiction.

There is one key witness left to be interviewed. After this, they will finish their file and send it to the DPP who will determine if charges should be brought.

A friend of the alleged victim said that the woman did not come forward before because she did not want her daughter to know what had happened.
