RTÉ could have a new star presenter in the making…
Radio bosses at the station are trying to sign former Westlife singer Nicky Byrne up to a regular slot on the ol’ wireless.
Nicky filled in for Ryan Tubridy on his morning show yesterday and impressed the bosses with his chatty nature.
The father-of-two’s new career is keeping up its momentum as he recently landed a presenting job with TV show The Hit which begins next week.
An insider told the Irish Sun: “Nicky went down a storm [on RTÉ], he’s a natural on radio and has a real way with people.
“He’s being lined up for more work on a more regular basis on 2FM and really impressed everyone in there.
“He wouldn’t be filling in for Ryan Tubridy if they didn’t rate him highly, it’s the most listened to show on the station.”
Georgina is pregnant for the second time.
Nicky said his mother was so proud to hear her son would be on the radio for the morning.
“I really didn’t have to be asked twice when 2FM approached me to fill in for Ryan Tubridy,” Nicky said before the show.
“It’s two hours that I’ll cherish and I’m willing to give it my best shot to keep listeners entertained.
“Also my mam will be very proud I’m taking over the ‘big one’ even if its just for one day!
“It’s massive boots to fill as Ryan is one of our best broadcasters and I’m really looking forward to the challenge.”
Nicky is also looking forward to becoming a new dad again as wife Georgina is set to add a little brother or sister to the family for twins Rocco and Jay.
