Florence Pugh has opened up about her fertility struggles

Actress Florence Pugh has confirmed she had to freeze her eggs at the age of 27.

The Don’t Worry Darling star opened up about the moment her doctor confirmed that she needed an egg count.

Pugh suffers from both PCOS and Endometriosis but didn’t realise she would need to have an egg count so young.

Speaking on the She MD podcast, Pugh explained that she had a sudden feeling something was wrong.

“I had this sudden feeling that I should go and get everything checked. I’d had a few weird dreams; I think my body was telling me,” she said.

Her doctor told her that she needed to have an egg count during the appointment.

Pugh continued, “And I was like, ‘No, what do you mean? I’m so young. Why do I need an egg count?’”

“It was just so bizarre because my family are baby-making machines,” Pugh said.

The actress said her mum was having children when she was in her 40s so her struggles came as a surprise.

“My mum had babies into her 40s. My gran had babies throughout … and then, of course, I learned completely different information, at age 27, that I need to get my eggs out and do it quickly.

“Which was just a bit of a mind-boggling realisation and one that I’m really lucky and glad that I found out when I did because I’ve been wanting kids since I was a child,” she shared.

Pugh said there should be more education about egg freezing because it could help so many women before it is too late.

“It’s something that will be the defining factor of whether you can have children or not,” she added.

Pugh’s honesty will undoubtedly help raise awareness about egg freezing by opening up about her own personal experience. Having these conversations about fertility and our struggles will not only raise awareness but also normalise these conversations too.
