Kate Middleton and Prince William could be set to pay Ireland a visit in 2014 and their first stop might be the people’s republic of Cork.
The Irish Examiner reports that diplomatic sources have said that “tentative” arrangements for a royal visit were being made before K-Middy fell pregnant and now the couple are likely to come to Ireland in 2014.
It is believed that Prince William wants to visit Ireland because of his role as a search and rescue helicopter pilot in the Irish Sea.
“The fact that Prince William is based in Anglesey gives a good hook for the visit,” said the diplomatic source.
“There is a lot of co-operation between Britain and Ireland in that area. Very tentative steps were taken before the Duchess of Cambridge became pregnant, but obviously because of the baby that had to be put on hold,” the source added.
Eamon Gilmore, the Foreign Minister, revealed the details of the royal couple’s trip in the Dail and said that it was a “priority” for Ireland to deepend ties with Britian with events like this. He added that K-Middy and Wills would be “very welcome” in the country.
Cork is being considered for the visit after the warm welcome the Queen received there in 2011.
So are the royal couple likely to bring their bundle of joy with them next year? Well, it remains to be seen however it’s worth noting that William’s own parents took him on a tour of Australia when he was a baby so you never know.
Cork is believed to be one of the Irish locations being considered for the visit as the warm welcome that Queen Elizabeth receieved there in 2011 was second to none. Apparently, the success of Queen Elizabeth’s visit to Cork opened the door for a visit from Kate and William.
“Deepening relations between Britian and Ireland, including through high-level visits, is a priority for this Government,” said Mr Gilmore.
“The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge would be very welcome to visit Ireland in that context,” he added.
