Eurovision star Bambie Thug feels ‘lucky’ after escaping the LA wildfires

Irish Eurovision star, Bambie Thug says she feels ‘lucky’ after escaping the wildfires that are currently devastating Los Angeles.

The 31-year-old has been in LA on a holiday visa, and was staying next to the Hollywood Hills when the Runyon Canyon fire broke out.

The wildfires caused a state of emergency to be declared after flames began to rip through the mountainous area on Tuesday due to strong winds.

Since then, tens of thousands have been forced to evacuate their homes and many people have lost their homes.

Speaking to Cork’s 96FM Opinion Line with PJ Coogan, Bambie said: “I was watching the news, but I had turned it on mute and unmuted it and it immediately said, ‘Hollywood Hills evacuate now’.

“So I went up to the roof and looked behind the house by this restaurant called Yamashiro – which is like this old Japanese, historic restaurant.

“There was like this big fire next to it and there were eight of us on the roof and I was like, ‘Should we leave?’, and then immediately after I said that we got an evacuation notice.

“I’ve never experienced a natural disaster. Obviously in Ireland we’re lucky.

“I was trying to book an Uber and they were cancelling on me and then a friend of mine actually came back into the building, gave me a lift down. So I was lucky, luck of the Irish.”

She went on to speak about how the fires have destroyed thousands of celebrity homes and businesses, and said: “I mean, it’s bad for everyone, but they [celebrities] have the money to rebuild it.

“There are people who don’t.”
