Eric Dane said he is angry over his ALS diagnosis

Grey’s Anatomy star Eric Dane has opened up about his devastating ALS diagnosis.

The actor confirmed he had the incurable degenerative condition in April and updated fans on his prognosis during an interview with Good Morning America.

Dane told Diane Sawyer that the right side of his body is no longer functioning.

He explained, “I have one functioning arm. … My left side is functioning. My right side, [which is my dominant side], has completely stopped working.”

Dane confirmed his left arm is also losing function.

He shared: “I feel like maybe a couple, a few more months and I won’t have my left. … I’m worried about my legs.”

Dane said it took nine months for him to receive his diagnosis as he was sent to and from different specialists and neurologists.

“I started experiencing some weakness in my right hand. And I didn’t really think anything of it at the time, I thought maybe I’d been texting too much and my hand was fatigued.

“A few weeks later, I noticed it’d gotten a little worse. I went and saw a hand specialist, who sent me to another hand specialist. I went and saw a neurologist, and the neurologist sent me to another neurologist and said, ‘This is way above my pay grade.'”

Dane said he is constantly thinking about his diagnosis.

He shared: “I will never forget those three letters, [ALS]. It’s on me the second I wake up. It’s not a dream.”

Dane said his diagnosis has been “sobering” but he is going to keep fighting.

He is set to continue his work on Euphoria, as well as police thriller Countdown.

“In my heart, I don’t feel like this is the end for me. I’m fighting as much as I can. There’s so much about it that’s out of my control.”

“I’m angry because my father was taken from me when I was young, and now there’s a very good chance I’m going to be taken from my girls when they’re very young,” Dane concluded.

Dane praised his wife Rebecca and their daughters, Billie and Georgia, for supporting him through this unthinkable time.
