He previously held the role between 2018 and 2020.

It has been confirmed (via The Independent) that former RTÉ presenter Eoghan McDermott will return to his voice-over job on the Australian edition of Love Island.

McDermott previously held the position between 2018 and 2020, before comedian Stephen Mullan took over the role.

As well as providing voice-over for the series, McDermott worked as a radio presenter on 2FM alongside Doireann Garrihy before his departure in February 2021. A reason for leaving was not given.

Earlier this year, McDermott addressed allegations that had been made against him online, and shared a letter from a solicitor which stated that the accuser behind the claims “accepts that there was a number of falsehoods contained in her publications”.

The letter read: “The client regrets her actions and acknowledges that her actions have caused, and continue to cause, detriment and destress to your client and those close to him.”

At the time, McDermott said: “Despite not being investigated or verified, these allegations were spread widely, the effects of which I am still processing.”

He added: “At the request of and with consideration for the other party to this dispute, I will not be commenting any further on this matter.”

The allegations were shared on Reddit and Twitter, but have since been deleted.

Love Island Australia begins on 31 October.
