‘I can’t see anything’ – Elton John gives health update as he puts new music on hold

Sir Elton John has spoken out about a recent eye infection and the complications it’s causing for his vision

The 77-year-old music icon revealed that he has had to step back temporarily from recording due to the infection, which he contracted earlier this year.

Speaking about the condition, Elton said: “It’s been a while since I’ve done anything, and well, I just have to get off my backside.”

He went on to say: “I unfortunately lost my eyesight in my right eye in July because I had an infection in the south of France and it’s been four months now since I haven’t been able to see, and my left eye is not the greatest.”

Elton then said despite the challenges he’s facing at the moment, he is hopeful that he will be ok.

“There’s hope and encouragement that it will be OK, but it’s… I’m kind of stuck at the moment, because I can do something like this (an interview), but going into the studio and recording, I don’t know, because I can’t see a lyric for a start.”

The star spoke to ABC News’ Good Morning America to speak about his struggle with the eye infection and said he still plans to release new music with Bernie Taupin at some point, according to the Mirror.

The only downside is that fans will have to wait a little longer to hear the new material as he remains committed to getting his health back on track.

“We’re taking initiative to try and get it better, but at the moment that’s really what we’re concentrating on.

“It’s never fortunate for anything like this to happen, and it kind of floored me. And I can’t see anything, I can’t read anything, can’t watch anything.”
