“I love you madly and appreciate you right back.”

Ellen Pompeo has bid an emotional goodbye to the world of Grey’s Anatomy as she leaves the show after a whopping 19 seasons.

Pompeo, who played Meredith Grey on the show, will make her final appearance on the medical drama in February.

In a post on Instagram, the actress thanked fans for all their support.

Accompanying a photo of herself, she wrote that she is “eternally grateful and humbled by the love and support” fans have shown her over the past 16 years.

“Through it all….none of it …would have been possible without the best fans in the world,” she penned. “You are all RIDERS and you all have made the ride so fun and ICONIC!!”

She went on: “I love you madly and appreciate you right back. This isn’t your first time on the rollercoaster… you know the show must go on and I’ll definitely be back to visit. With a lot of love and immense gratitude XoE.”

In the comments, fans shared their love for Ellen, and the journey they’ve been on together.

One wrote: “19 incredible seasons of trailblazing. Looking forward to seeing what’s next for you as you transition.”

Another said: “Congratulations on a beautiful journey.”

Ellen’s goodbye comes just a week after it was announced she would have her last episode in February 2023.

The official Grey’s Anatomy Twitter page confirmed that the character of Meredith Grey will make her final appearance in February 2023.

Accompanying a video with a caption, the tweet read: “On February 23, one chapter ends and a new one begins.”

In the trailer, we see Meredith walking through Seattle Grace, saying: “Big last day!”

Grey’s Anatomy has been running since 2005, and in recent years, Pompeo herself has suggested that it should end soon.

Last year, she said: “I’ve been trying to focus on convincing everybody that it should end.”
